The Formula | Review

If one is looking for a comprehensive history of Formula 1 that has an easy novel like narration, this is that book. Coming from Joshua Robinson and Jonathan Clegg, it paints an incredibly vivid picture of the moments and people that built the sport.

Chapter by chapter it examines the creation of teams and cars, and what took the series from a niche venture to a billion dollar international success. While frequently complementary of these great accomplishments, the novel is also peppered with humourous discriptions of those involved.

Instead of being a suave European, he was a squinting Englishman who complained so loudly and so often that Wolff had compared him to a yapping terrier. - first description of Christian Horner

And unlike many other books this one doesn't narrow down, choosing instead to look at all the elements that have come together; business and sponsorships, driver rivalries and switching teams, building the cars and the loopholes that are continuously searched for. It's an incredible first deep dive for those new to the sport and a great refresher for older fans who have surely had some of these details shoved to the back of their minds. Sprinkled in are also offhanded mentions of wild events with no details or expantion. A perfect way to ecourage curiosity about the sport with clear guidlines of what to research.

Thoroughly researched and engaging The Formula is a must read and available now.
